We are excited to announce the appointment of Jacob Barber as Principal of CAST Tech High School starting January 2, 2024. After a collaborative process that included current students, families, staff, industry partners, San Antonio ISD, and CAST, Mr. Barber emerged with a clear vision for a future that embraces a student-centered approach, innovation, academic excellence, and community engagement.
Jacob Barber is no stranger to CAST Tech. Since 2017, he has worked alongside Dr. Melissa Alcala as the assistant principal to create the leading tech-focused school in Bexar County. He was instrumental in building a community and a unique Cyberknight culture while fostering academic and career opportunities for students.
Mr. Barber earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Texas A&M University – College Station and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Trinity University. He started his career teaching math at Kennedy High School in Edgewood ISD, where he became affectionately known by his students as “Math Dad.” At the Advanced Learning Academy, he learned how to create a school from scratch and saw firsthand how much of an impact one school can make on a student. Mr. Barber continued a track record of launching innovative schools when he joined CAST Tech.
As part of the application process, we asked select candidates to answer, “Why should you be the next principal at CAST Tech?” Mr. Barber shared that he had “more than 500 why’s,” referring to all the students currently attending CAST Tech. Since the school first opened to this day, Jacob Barber would join the daily announcements to share a special message, “If no one has told you they love you, Mr. Barber loves you.”
Mr. Barber replaces founding Principal Dr. Alcala, who is going to the San Antonio Independent School District as Assistant Superintendent for 1882 partners. Dr. Alcala leaves a huge legacy and a strong foundation.
Please join us in congratulating Jacob Barber. We look forward to the continued success of CAST Tech.
Have a happy Thanksgiving!
